Who may qualify

Your site may qualify if you run a small business in NSW (offices, retail stores, clinics, cafes, salons and similar sites), your existing lighting is older fluorescent or halogen, and your site meets the scheme’s consumption rules. The fastest way to confirm is a recent electricity bill: send it through and we will check your eligibility for free, with no obligation. Final eligibility is confirmed at a free on-site assessment.

Installed prices for eligible sites

The rebate isn't capped, and right now eligible panel replacements are free apart from the scheme's required co-payment. A commercial LED panel typically costs $100 or more supplied and installed, which is what the government incentive is covering. Other fittings are listed below.

Fitting Installed price
LED panel (troffer replacement) Free under our current panel offer. One $33 site co-payment (inc GST) applies
LED batten (fluoro batten replacement) $20 per fitting plus GST
High bay LED (warehouses, outside the scheme) $399 per fitting plus GST, supplied and installed
Other fittings (downlights, car park and outdoor lighting) Quoted at your free site assessment
The panel offer applies to eligible NSW small business sites replacing existing fluorescent troffers, for sites with 10 or more panel replacements, while our current panel stock lasts. The $33 co-payment is the minimum customer contribution the scheme’s rules require on every job, whoever does it. Eligibility, fitting counts and any non panel pricing are confirmed at your free site assessment before any work is booked. Fittings are from the IPART approved product list, old lamps are recycled with disposal receipts kept, and multi floor or multi site upgrades are welcome.

Commercial LED lighting upgrades: what we replace

Fluorescent light replacement is the heart of most office and retail upgrades. We replace fluorescent troffers and battens (T8 and T5 tubes) and halogen fittings, and every replacement is a complete new LED fitting, not a globe swap. Our standard panel is the Emerald Vanguard VG123-25: 25W, 5000K daylight white, 3,173 lumens at 126 lumens per watt, using up to 80% less energy than the old fluorescent fittings it replaces.

One honest note: strip lights and high bay warehouse lighting closed to new work under the NSW scheme following the 2026 rule change. HEER lighting activities for small business sites remain available, and that is the pathway this page describes.

Better lighting = Increased Productivity

Studies conducted by a Dutch retail company show that lighting can specifically help to guide customers through a store. This increases the average customers spend by at least 1.93%. In an office environment, poor lighting can lead to a lack of concentration and decreased productivity from your staff.

LED Panels offer consistent lighting, low-glare performance, and high CRI for improved brightness and ambience. LEDs also have superior lux and beam angles that consistently cover a whole area without leaving patches.

Reduce Your Electricity Bills By Up to 80%

Older lights like fluorescent tubes consume a high amount of energy. In fact, 15%-20% of the electricity is lost due to energy dissipation and heat. If you're using fluorescents in your office or retail store, 20% of your lighting cost is coming from heat generation, NOT light!

However, LED Panels convert over 95% of used energy into actual light, because they run at a cooler temperature. That's why LEDs will reduce your lighting costs by over 80% compared to conventional halogen and fluorescent lights. They also have a lifespan of more than 50,000 hours, which drastically reduces your maintenance and replacement costs. This makes the NSW LED light rebate a must for your office or retail environment.

How it works

  1. Check your eligibility. The 60 second form below, or send us a recent electricity bill.
  2. Free site assessment. A licensed electrician confirms your fittings, counts and final pricing.
  3. You approve and sign. One nomination form covers the scheme paperwork. We handle the rest, including compliance records and before and after photos.
  4. We install. Fast and low disruption, scheduled around your trading hours where possible.
  5. Old lights recycled. Lamps go to Ecocycle with receipts kept on file, and metal goes to a metal recycler.

Only accredited providers can create the energy savings certificates that fund the discount, so this is not something your own electrician can claim for you. Efficient Energy Group is an accredited provider under the NSW Energy Savings Scheme.

What Types of Lighting Upgrades are Eligible in the Scheme?

The Energy Savings Scheme covers a range of different lighting technologies, including LED lights. To be eligible for the scheme, your LEDs must meet certain energy-efficiency criteria. Here’s a quick overview:

Lighting Technology / Upgrade Type Efficiency & Equipment Requirements Notes/Additional Conditions
LED downlights, panels, floodlights Must be on approved list and meet energy efficiency standards Minimum warranty required; old lights must be safely disposed of
LED lamp replacements (e.g. tubes replacing T8/T12) Must improve lumens per watt; old ballasts must be removed or disabled Only approved lamp types allowed; power factor may need verification
Modified luminaires (e.g. retrofitted fluorescent fittings) No adaptor kits; must follow safety standards Must be installed by a licensed electrician with full documentation

Why Should You Consider Upgrading Your Lighting to LED Lighting?

Switching to LED lighting in your office or retail space is a strategic move that aims for sustainability and cost-effectiveness. LED lights are renowned for their energy efficiency, consuming up to 80% less energy than traditional bulbs. This leads to significant savings on electricity and maintenance bills.

These lights are consistent, and deliver flicker-free illumination for a more comfortable work environment for customers and staff. Their low-glare design reduces eye strain together with a high Colour Rendering Index (CRI).

LED lights mimic natural sunlight, creating a pleasant and mood-enhancing environment. Transitioning to LED lighting is an investment in your business’ future, benefiting the environment as well as your finances. Common questions

Is the LED upgrade still free?

Panel replacements currently are. Eligible sites pay only the $33 co-payment (inc GST) that the scheme requires as a minimum customer contribution, and the panels and installation are covered by the government incentive. Other fittings such as battens are installed at heavily subsidised prices confirmed at your free assessment.

Why do some companies advertise these upgrades with no co-payment at all?

The scheme’s rules require a minimum customer contribution on every job. We state it up front because that is how the scheme actually works.

Is the rebate capped?

The rebate isn’t capped. The incentive applies to every eligible fitting we replace at your site, whether that is ten lights or several hundred.

How much does commercial LED lighting cost?

For eligible panel replacements, $33 total under our current offer. Battens are $20 per fitting plus GST, and other fittings are quoted at your free assessment. Your exact scope is confirmed on site before anything is booked.

Who qualifies?

NSW small business sites with older fluorescent or halogen lighting may qualify under the scheme’s small business pathway. Eligibility depends on your site’s electricity consumption and existing fittings, which is why we check your bill and confirm everything at a free assessment.

Can my own electrician do the upgrade?

They can install lights, but they cannot claim the scheme discount. Only accredited providers can create the certificates that fund it. We are accredited, and our licensed electricians do the installation as part of the service.

How disruptive is the installation?

Most office and retail installs are completed quickly with minimal disruption, and we schedule around your trading hours where we can. Site visits are often available the same week.

What happens to my old lights?

We recycle them. Lamps go to Ecocycle with receipts kept for compliance, and metal components go to a metal recycler.

Do you still upgrade high bays or warehouse lighting in NSW?

Not under the NSW scheme. High bays and strip lights closed to new scheme work under the 2026 rule change, while panels and battens for small business sites remain available. We can still supply and install high bay LEDs anywhere in NSW at our standard commercial rate, listed in the price table above. If you have a warehouse in South Australia, high bay upgrades are still covered by the scheme there: see https://www.efficientenergygroup.com.au/warehouse-led-replacement-south-australia/
